TREATMENT OF CHRONIC WOUNDS AND VENOUS ULCERS

Some chronic wounds after skin surgery and chronic ulcers do not heal well and require long- term care.
This method was originally developed for oral and maxillofacial surgery.
PRF- platelet Rich Fibrin has been shown to improve wound healing and achieve fast wound closure.
Platelet Rich Fibrin is a fibrin lattice that contains platelets, growth factors, and cytokines, which gives is unique healing properties.

Method
The patient’s own blood is collected in tubes. The tubes are spun in a centrifuge.
After centrifugation the blood is separated into three layers. The plugs of Platelet Rich Fibrin are removed and placed onto a wound. Follow-up is necessary and wound usually heals in 4-6 weeks.
